Bridging East and West: IHM International Joins ICESCO for a Landmark Dialogue on Culture, Science, and Diplomacy, Vienna / Rabat

What does it really take to build genuine bridges between East and West, North and South?

On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, more than 50 experts, university professors, and researchers from 15 countries came together online to explore exactly that question — and IHM International was proud to stand at the heart of the conversation.

The webinar was jointly organized by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ICESCO, in partnership with IHM International, the Institute for Technology-Based Education in Health, Management, and Social Services, and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Vienna. Together, they brought some of the most influential voices in culture, science, and international diplomacy into a single room — a rare and powerful convergence of perspectives.

A Conversation That Mattered

From the opening remarks, it was clear this would be no ordinary panel. Dr. Klaus Mainzer, representing the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, set the tone by reflecting on how culture, the arts, and scientific research remain among our most powerful tools for building peace and dialogue between peoples in today’s turbulent global landscape — a reminder that in an era of division, ideas still travel further than borders.

For IHM International, it was a moment to shine.

Dr. Martin Stieger, President of IHM International, made a compelling case for a human-centered approach to artificial intelligence — one that takes social and cultural realities seriously, rather than treating technology as a one-size-fits-all solution. It was a message that resonated well beyond the tech world: innovation only works when it’s built around people, not the other way around.

Dr. Georg Votava, Vice President of IHM International, shared insights drawn from leading international experiences in multidimensional development, offering a grounded, field-tested perspective on what sustainable progress actually looks like in practice.

And Ing. Martin Schaffenrath, of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, delivered a compelling call to invest in youth as the true cornerstone of sustainable development — a rallying point that drew visible agreement across the virtual room.

Closing the panel, Dr. Mohamed Zinelabidine, Head of ICESCO’s Culture Sector, spoke with visible pride about the partnership with European institutions, describing culture as a bridge connecting North and South. He walked participants through several successful international initiatives, underscoring the importance of a cultural space built on diversity, creativity, and shared expertise.
